Firewall and Router rule set review
Requirement 1.1.7 of PCI Compliance is to review firewall and router rule sets at least every six months to clean up any unneeded, outdated, or incorrect rules, and ensure that all rule sets allow only authorized services and ports that match the documented business justifications.
Firewall or Router serve as the first lines of defence protecting an organization’s network infrastructure from an external attacker. If this defence is weak, an organization could face a considerable risk of being compromised.
The firewall and Router Rule set review comprises a line-by-line analysis of the device configuration for industry best practices that are taken from the Center for Internet Security, NIST, the DoD, and vendor-specific guidelines. This will also examine vendor-specific vulnerabilities, ingress and egress access controls, logging and auditing, and system management.
